DesignMD is a Chrome extension that analyses a web page you choose and writes a design specification — a design.md — that you or an AI coding agent can use to rebuild that design. This policy describes exactly what it reads, what it stores, and the three places data can leave your browser.

The short version

DesignMD has no server, no account and no sign-in. We do not run analytics or telemetry. Nothing you analyse is ever sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent. Your analyses, settings, history and licence all live in your own browser's extension storage, on your own device.

What DesignMD reads, and when

DesignMD reads a page only when you ask it to — by clicking the toolbar icon, choosing "Analyze design with DesignMD" from the right-click menu, or pressing the keyboard shortcut. It installs with no standing access to any site and runs no code on any page until one of those actions. It reads only the top frame of the tab you acted on.

From that page it reads the rendered structure and styling: colours, fonts, type sizes, spacing, corner radii, shadows, layout geometry, hover and focus state differences, animation and transition timings, and image dimensions and filenames.

If the "capture page copy" setting is left on (it is on by default and can be turned off in Settings), it also captures the visible text of the page — headings, subheads, bullets, button labels, navigation and footer labels, pricing tier names, FAQ questions and testimonial quotes — so that the specification describes the real page instead of placeholder text. That capture is scrubbed before it is stored:

• Anything shaped like an email address, a phone number or a card number is replaced with [redacted].
• mailto:, tel: and sms: links become [redacted]. javascript:, data: and blob: links are dropped entirely.
• Other links are reduced to a same-origin path or a bare external hostname. Query strings and URL fragments never leave the page.
• Form fields are recorded only by type, name, label, placeholder and whether they are required. No value you have typed into a form is ever read, and hidden inputs are skipped entirely.
• Image and asset URLs are reduced to a filename (plus the hostname if third-party). A data: URI collapses to its media type, so no embedded image payload is stored.

DesignMD never takes screenshots. It never reads cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB. It never uses your browsing history, your bookmarks, your open tabs or your network requests. It does not click, submit, navigate or otherwise interact with the page; the deep scan scrolls the page to measure it and restores your exact scroll position when it finishes.

What is stored, and where

Everything below is stored in your browser's local extension storage, on your device:

• Your settings: scan depth, whether to capture page copy, the time budget.
• Your AI provider choice, model and API key, if you set one up.
• Your History: the last 8 analyses, each with the analysed page's URL, title, timestamp and full extracted data. You can clear this from the panel at any time.
• Your Mix board: up to 10 further captured analyses you have chosen to combine.
